The town of Ypres is a very pleasant place to spend a weekend with family and friends. Ypres is really a town on a human scale: you can walk everywhere and there is something to do every weekend. Most people know Ypres for its museums and WWI commemorations. But even for the people who are not so much into the war, Ypres is a nice city to go to. What else Ypres has to offer, I would like to tell a bit more about that in this blog.

City of Ypres has a very active Tourism Department. In recent years, several bicycle routes and walking tours have been developed. Almost every weekend there are activities on the main market. On Saturday mornings there is 'The Market' where many Ypres residents come to do their shopping. On Sundays, De Grote Markt is the setting for a range of activities.

In recent years, the Westhoek has been increasingly put on the map as a cycling and hiking area. The landscape is flat and varied (unless you seek out the Heuvelland, of course)! The bicycle roads are good and there is relatively little traffic. And if you meet someone, it is often a farmer on a tractor!
